This new curriculum from Love and Logic truly speaks to the heart of what our children and also adults need to thrive in this modern society. The positive cultural and moral values that once shaped our children at a young age are being replaced with negative influences that are having detrimental affects on their development.
As an educator, we are seeing an influx of students that have experienced trauma as early as Pre-Kindergarten come into the school system. Many people are trying to find ways to support these students through Mental Health avenues, but a lot of times the cost is too much to provide students with support that is adequate for the school setting. When Love and Logic put out this new curriculum Love and Logic: Adults Supporting Youth with Challenging Pasts (Trauma Informed Care), we knew it would be useful to provide our teachers, counselors, and administration a viable researched-based curriculum to support them on their journey not only through the education system, but also in life. The research in this curriculum surrounded around brain development and its impact on children that have been impacted with trauma has been especially beneficial, because it intentionally shows adults how we can support youth through this process.
The practicality of immediate strategies one can use in the classroom, at home, or whatever space is useful and creates a sense of empowerment for those who use them. Many of types of curriculum, gives you lots of charts, data and educational jargon that keeps people distant and unable to apply what they learn to their daily lives. This curriculum uses stories to build purpose and provides the human element that everyone can use because we can easily identify with them, no matter the walk of life.
I also love the fact that I do not have to be the expert on all of these topics, but can use our own personal stories, matched with each topic, to make it even more personal to build capacity among the staff who are listening to the curriculum.
I highly recommend this new curriculum for anyone who wants to have a set of strategies that they can use to help students, parents, staff, and anyone who needs support.

I work with families who have very challenging youth in their custody. Almost of the challenging behaviors can be linked back to trauma. This curriculum has been amazing in helping parents understand the mind blowing behaviors that their children are showing as well as helping parents to take some of the weight off their own shoulders of the kids' actions.

I love the way the videos use the tried and true Love and Logic techniques while doing a fantastic job discussing trauma and the special needs of children who have come from difficult pasts!! Very well put together!
