Charles Fay, Ph.D.
Charles Fay, Ph.D. is a parent, internationally recognized author, consultant and highly skilled public speaker.
Millions of educators, mental health professionals, and parents world-wide have benefited from his practical and down-to-earth solutions to the most common and frustrating behaviors displayed by youth of all ages. These solutions come directly from years of research and clinical experience serving severely disturbed youth and their families in psychiatric hospitals, public and private schools, and homes.
Fay’s interest in education and psychology were peaked as a child from years of exposure to some of our nation’s most dynamic experts in these fields. This early exposure came as a result of participation in training events with his father, Jim Fay. Jim is one of the nation’s leading experts on child discipline and has over fifty years of experience in public education. The internationally recognized Love and Logic approach was literally developed around Charles Fay as he grew. Now he jokes, “I think that’s why I became a psychologist... just to figure out what they were doing to me as a kid. But... let me be clear... I absolutely adore my mom and dad as a result.” Learn more about Charles, including a list of products authored by him.
It was the mid 1970’s, and two men were concerned about the number of parents and educators struggling with challenging children and teens.
They won’t listen to a thing I say. If I’d have known how hard it was to be a parent, I wouldn’t have had kids!
Every year the students get more out of control. Now I spend more time doing discipline than teaching. Something’s got to give!
Foster W. Cline, M.D., a child psychiatrist, and Jim Fay, an educator of nearly thirty years, began their quest to find solutions. Over the next decade their research and real-life experience gave birth to the Love and Logic approach. Learn more about underlying research.
These respected experts discovered that children thrive when they...
- Have loving, compassionate and genuinely empathetic parents and teachers
- Experience consistent limits and accountability
- Are allowed to learn by making plenty of small, “affordable” mistakes
- Are taught to own and solve the problems they encounter
Today Love and Logic is trusted world-wide for practical and effective resources for bringing the joy back to parenting and teaching.
