I have been a middle school teacher for 11 years, and before that I substituted for 10 years in various positions from kindergarten to alternative high school. I always considered myself fair, but strict and consistent. Taking this course has helped me see where I need to improve, but also gave me encouragement that I was doing some things right! Thank you for the honest, real-life examples. The last two years have been tough with escalated behavior issues which prompted me to sign up for this course. I feel prepared to handle problem students better and to implement methods to help my team. I am concerned that admin told us they were implementing a new PBS for this school year. I plan to make Love and Logic the priority while seeing how it fits with admin's new program.

I enjoyed the webinar and liked that the format included the presentation components along with the independent readings and exercises, as well as the review of the exercises. It would be helpful to have a printable copy of the e-book however. Especially since the content is only available for a set period of time, I needed a document with the written content so that I could take notes throughout and complete the exercises on paper.

This was an engaging webinar and I am slowly putting these strategies in place during my encounters with my students. While the content is universally applicable, I did feel that the presentation was a bit dated and a little patched together. I also read the second edition of Teaching with Love and Logic, which covered the same material. I preferred the book but was required by my principal to take the webinar. You could say I covered all the bases!

At only 2 years into my teaching career, I was suffering extreme burnout. I was starting to hate my job. I was tired. I was annoyed constantly. And I couldn't stop yelling at my problem middle schoolers. It wasn't all me. I had a batch that were 10 kinds of nuts that year. One of them walked up to another student and *licked him.* Just stuck his tongue out and licked him. When I asked him why he thought it was okay, his exact words were, "Well, you don't have a rule against it." Yes, because no one in their right mind would think they even needed one. My therapist recommended I try Teaching With Love and Logic, so I invested in the webinar. As someone who is neurodivergent, I find it hard to figure out how to change my behavior to fit certain techniques. But this gave me everything. How to walk, how to talk, how to word things, even how to arrange my face to make the plan work. This is clearly a program meant to work with people like me! I'm already seeing better behavior. I'm getting students to work with me, to not disrupt class, and I spend more time teaching than I do managing behavior. I'm much more relaxed, and I deeply enjoy having my students in class. And now, with a blanket rule about not causing problems for others, I don't have to worry about a student licking anyone else.

I am learning a lot as I prepare for the school year. A 30 year veteran teacher told me the L&L approach was his game changer. As for this program, I like the time limit so you have a deadline to access material. The option to get credit from UMass is NOT college credit, but 3 hours of PD credit. It'a more work to write a paper (at least one page), and meet very detailed rubric guidelines, for each module, but it will reinforce your learning. If you JUST want a certificate to put on your wall, you don't need this UMass option (:another $95). Love and Logic has a "quiz" and "Certificate of Completion". Also if you do UMASS - login to their system within 72 hours of getting the email. I didn't know to look for this and it was over an hour of my time trying to get to people to help and figure it all out. They were very helpful though once I got to the right people. Thank you, Dr. Jim and Charles Fay for this program! I look forward to loving with boundaries this upcoming group of very low performers. We are going to have a great year.
