Angry Kids Safety Checklist for Parents

Does he/she have access to guns, knives, etc.?
  • We've searched our home.
  • Relatives, friends, neighbors have been alerted.
Are we providing adequate supervision?
  • He/she is not being left home alone.
Are other children safe?
  • He/she is not sleeping in the same room as other children.
  • We make sure that someone is watching when he/ she is around other kids.
Are the pets safe?
  • We have found another place for our pets to live until our child is better.
Do we really know what's in his/her room?
  • We have searched his/her room and will do so on a daily basis.
  • This child is not carrying a backpack, bag, etc., in and out of the house.
Have we removed...or locked up...other potentially dangerous items?
  • All medications.
  • Tools in the garage and other places.
  • Kitchen utensils.
  • Cleaning supplies.
  • Oil, gas, WD-40, hair spray, lighters, etc.
  • Any ammunition (e.g., bullets, shotgun shells)
  • Personal hygiene items, such as toothbrushes, shampoo, mouthwash, etc.
  • Car keys.

Might he/she try to poison us?
  • We have locks on our refrigerator and food cabinets.
Do we have working smoke detectors and fire extinguishers?
  • We check them at least weekly to make sure they are operating.
Are we in danger at night?
  • We have installed alarms on interior and exterior doors.
Will he/she use the internet for destructive purposes?
  • We lock the computer when it isn't in use.
Are our valuables safe?
  • We have put our most cherished possessions in storage.
What else might this child get into and use for harm?
