This just makes so much sense. Every teacher needs to read/hear this.
I am stepping back into the formal classroom after 20+ years. It was a daunting decision, and what concerned me the most was classroom management. The "Quick and Easy Classroom Interventions" audio recording was very encouraging and helped ease my fears. I felt like the information shared was practical and doable--first and foremost, to build and establish a relationship with each of our students (especially the ones who require more love and attention). Highly recommended!
I loved listening to the audio of quick interventions. Some might work for certain kids where others might not, but there are a lot so it was worth learning about this Love and Logic skill.
This product has been very helpful in planning our 2nd year of the Love and Logic program rollout. We are utilizing this product to refocus on our practices and tighten the consistency of our routines across our building. This product helps provide specific examples. We found that Track 7 (Intervention 14) was a major emphasis! We will be sharing that information with the whole staff to help in the creation of strong tier 1 approaches to classroom management. It would be helpful if the document referenced several times by Dr. Fay in the audio were made available for download as part of this purchase. If that can be made available, please let me know, as I would love to see the resource he references multiple times in this session.
Thank you!
Nick
Gosh I LOVE everything about love and logic. It speaks to my soul!! :) I love listening to the audio in the car sometimes or when I’m walking the dogs. It really keeps those love and logic strategies and ideas fresh in my mind. It’s also just fun to listen to the stories and think about how I can apply them to my own class.
Honestly, every time I've used one of these so far, it's worked. Even with my most difficult students.
I have a student whose favorite activity is disrupting class. He gives joke answers and refuses to change his behavior, even though he claims I'm his favorite teacher. So I used an I Message as described to express to him how I disliked his behavior.
"Hey, when students give lots of joke answers, I find it really difficult to teach."
"Well, what am I supposed to do then?" He shouted, indignantly.
"I just wanted you to know." And I sent him off to class.
By lunch time, he'd apologized for acting up in class. His behavior is starting to improve bit by bit. He still gives joke answers, but if I ask him if it's a serious answer or not, he now declines to give the joke answer. (I'm okay with joke answers to a degree.)
Before doing this program over the summer, I was suffering from extreme burnout after only being a teacher for 2 years. I'm already more relaxed in the classroom, getting better behavior, and my students are happier. Long live Love and Logic.
I purchased the CD "Quick and Easy Classroom Interventions" at the beginning of the year and finally got around to listening to it. I applied some of the techniques to a student who experiences meltdowns constantly. It really worked! At first, when the child walked in and didn't get her way, she threw her stuff on the floor one thing at a time. At first I was frustrated and thought here we go again. Then, I went up and whispered in her ear, "Is this a good time for this?" She cried under the table. I went under the table and whispered, "Just because I care about you, should I let you act like this?" She answered, "No," stopped crying immediately and went back to work. I was so amazed I had to share.
